Secret Tower


Secret TowerThe first Kremlin tower to be built (in 1485) was the Secret Tower, designedby the Italian architect Anton Fryazin (Fryazin was the name given in Russiato all Italians). Under the tower there was a well and secret passage tothe Moscow River providing the Kremlin with water in case of sieges. Hence,the tower's name - Secret. Dismantled in 1773, it was reconstructed tothe design of Matvei Kazakov.During the 1930s the drawbridge was dismantled. The height of the toweris 38.4 metres (126 ft).
