Secret Tower
The first Kremlin tower to be built (in 1485) was the Secret Tower, designed
by the Italian architect Anton Fryazin (Fryazin was the name given in Russia
to all Italians). Under the tower there was a well and secret passage to
the Moscow River providing the Kremlin with water in case of sieges. Hence,
the tower's name - Secret. Dismantled in 1773, it was reconstructed to
the design of Matvei Kazakov.
During the 1930s the drawbridge was dismantled. The height of the tower
is 38.4 metres (126 ft).
