Commandant Tower
The Commandant Tower (formerly the Carriage Tower) was built in 1495-99 by
Architect Aloisio da Carezano. The tent roof was added in the 1680s. The
height of the tower is 41.25 metres (135 ft). The tower was originally
called the Carriage Tower after the nearby Carriage Yard with conveyances
of the tsar and courtiers. Its present name dates from the nineteenth century
when the town commandant moved to the Amusement
Palace close by.
