Armoury Tower
The Armoury Tower (formerly the Stable Tower) was built in 1495 by architect
Alevis Fryazin the Elder. The
tent roof was added in the 1680s. The height of the tower is 32.65 metres
(107 ft). This view is from the Alexandrovsky Gardens. Like the Borovitskaya
Tower, it was built on the bank of the Neglinnaya River. The architect
Alevis Fryazin the Elder straightened the bed of the Neglinnaya, made several
ponds and erected a new Kremlin wall very close to the river. It was been
called the Armoury Tower ever since the new Armoury was built next to it
in 1851. Before that it was known as the Stable Tower because of the old
stables nearby.
