Beklemishev Tower


Beklemishev Tower˙The Beklemishev Tower, which is just under 47 m (155 ft) high, was built byMarco Ruffo in 1487. The superstructuredates from the 1680s. The tower is named after a boyar called Beklemishevwho had a mansion just inside the Kremlin walls at this point. After Beklemishevwas executed in the reign of Ivan III,the tower was used as a prison. The tower's tent roof was partly demolishedduring the October Revolution, but was restored to its original state inthe 1950s.
